2024: Serenity + Protection

An autobiographical meditation on softness, the quietude of watery spaces, and weaponry.

Hellooooooo !

I am...

from a small place that is so warm and green and fragrant with the scent of ripe and rotting fruit.
finding my way day by day, feeling and thinking in the great big swirl.
Studying and appreciating the wisdom of youngin’s.
Practicing the conservation of personal freedom and creative expression.
exploring many mediums of creativity including music, dance, tattoo and ceramics.
Playing with the gender box
In love with being outdoors without shoes
Most at home on a sandy beach.
descending into an exploration of autobiography, Blackness, serenity, protection, despair, apocalypse visioning, weaponry and healing.
Raging against hegemony, shielding myside from its invasion and combing my insides for its shrapnel.
trying always to preserve the human spirit and self determination.
in conversation with trauma and a student of its language.

I also create music under the moniker WADESS, you can tune in to a test beat here

Teaching Experience

I am a certified trauma-informed teaching artist (Bartol Foundation TIPTA 2024). Currently I teach at Philly Art Center and Salamander Arts Aftrerschool Program. Teaching represents a bridging of my passion for childcare work and art making. My pedagogy is informed by the works of scholars like bell hooks and Paolo Freire, decolonial theory, anti-racism, anti-sexism, disability justice, and queerness. I strive to be in service of artist participants, facilitating an emotionally present, non-judgemental environment, designing open ended/participant directed practice and learning.
